Throughout the month of March we have collaborated to celebrate Women’s History Month and the rich history of the amazing women living in our communities. Their candid stories are brimming over with love, happiness, passion, family values and the markings of individuals who have truly lived well and loved life.

Priscilla’s Story (Resident of Bayberry at Emerald )

What is your name?

What are the names of your parents and brothers and sisters?
I have 4 siblings Jim, Diane, Paula and Lorna

How did your parents choose your name? Does it have a special meaning? Did you have any nicknames?
I was named after my aunt Pricilla and my nickname was Sam

When and where were you born?
My birthday is October 22

What kinds of things did your family do together when you were young?
We spend a lot of time traveling together visiting family and going to the beach. We spent a whole summer at the Cape.

What did you love to do with your friends?
We always listened to music

What schools did you attend? What were your favorite subjects?
I attended the Haverhill Schools and then went to Lowell State where I studied music

If married, what is/was your husband’s name? How did he propose?
My husbands name was Lawrence

What are your children’s names?

What are some special memories you have about your children?
I spent an entire summer with my daughter at the Cape in Dennis port.

Where have you lived?
Haverhill, Massachusetts

Have you had jobs? Who did you work for and what did you do?
I worked in the Boston School system as a music teacher. I taught children to play and love music ranging in grades from kindergarten to high school. I also performed in many clubs throughout the state. I was part of a jazz trio for a short time and my husband played the base.

What are your hidden talents?
Playing the piano

What did you do to get through the difficult times in your life?
I got through with the support of my family. We learned a lot from each other and we kept our personal matters private.

Do you have holiday traditions? What do you do for the holidays?
I loved the holidays and we always celebrated together with my family in a great big house. We always had a great time.

What are some of your favorite things?
I love my cats! My cats mean so much to me. I always had one growing up. My favorite song is “A kiss is but a kiss.”

What are some personal experiences that have especially touched your heart?
I played my music for many nightclubs. I was scheduled to perform at the Betty's Rolls Royce during the Blizzard of 78. They sent a car for me every day to keep people entertained during the storm.

What are your favorite things to do now?
I still play the piano every day for family, friends, staff and my peers. I love spending time with my daughter.

What are you favorite experiences to partake in at Bayberry at Emerald Court?
I enjoy attending the music programs that are offered weekly and going out to eat with my peers.

What is your biggest piece of advice?
If you can get going, get going, don’t procrastinate
