Throughout the month of March we have collaborated to celebrate Women’s History Month and the rich history of the amazing women living in our communities. Their candid stories are brimming over with love, happiness, passion, family values and the markings of individuals who have truly lived well and loved life.
Lorraine’s Story (Resident of Seasons of Danvers)
What is your name?
Where were you born?
Salem, Massachusetts. I grew up and spent my whole life in Beverly.
What did you love to do with your friends?
I loved playing hopscotch with my best friend Catie. We met in kindergarten and have been best friends ever since. We were always laughing and having fun.
What were your favorite subject in school?
I loved art. I would always be drawing anything I could see.
If married, what is/was your spouses name? How did they propose?
We called my husband Jojo. I don’t remember how he proposed but when we first met I just had a feeling he was the one. It’s hard to explain how you know you’re in love. You just are drawn to and gravitate toward that person and always want to be with them. He always gave me happiness and we enjoyed just being together.
What are your children’s names?
I have 3 Children, 2 daughters and 1 son, Lisa, Dale and Jim. I have 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
What are some special memories you have about your children?
We had a boat and would go on boat trips to Nantucket. We would pack out own lunches and then enjoy them while sitting in the sand.
Have you had jobs? Who did your work for and what did you do?
I never really had to work. I was lucky. I spent my time with my family.
What are your hidden talents?
I love to sing! I loved singing ever since I was a little girl. I used to open up all the windows in the house and sing out the windows. I even took singing lessons in Boston for a while. All music is beautiful and gives me such pleasure.
What did you do to get through the difficult times in your life?
Do you have holiday traditions? What do you do for the holidays?
My daughters tell me that I always made the best meatloaf. It wouldn’t be a holiday if I didn’t make the meatloaf. Other people always thought it was funny that we had meatloaf at holidays.
What are some of your favorite things?
Color- I love all bright colors but purple is my favorite
Flower- I always had Diplandenias in the yard. They were my favorite but I also love hydrangeas
Foods- Black raspberry ice cream and pizza. I would take my family out for pizza at least twice a week.
Pet- I had a little dog when I was younger named Taffy.
What are your favorite thing to do at Seasons of Danvers?
I still love to sing all the time. I mostly enjoy spending time with people that I enjoy.
What do you hope for your children and grandchildren?
I want them to always be themselves and do the best they can.
What is your biggest piece of advice?
Don’t let life pass you by. Grab it, hold it, and enjoy it.
